amazing editing style, succinct and fitting. really striking tones and framing. can't get over the editing style, it's perfect. it's such a simple image as well that has been completely transformed by some small adjustments. such is the power of photoshop i suppose
her stuff can be found here she only really takes self portraits, they're all great tho.

canon 5d mkII
right. this is going to come off as either jealousy, arrogant, pathetic or probably all three. the canon 5d mkII is a camera that almost knows no bounds. with a 22mp sensor and the ability to shoot in 1080 hd film, it's almost an important invention as the camera obscura. never in modern photography have we seen such an invention that will completely change the way we photograph from now on. i want this camera. i really want this camera, and it pisses me off when people who don't know how to take a picture afford them, use them, and produce boring images. now i'm not saying i am brilliant, but take for example the picture of the trees to the left. this was taken on the 5d mkII and i found this in the interesting section of flickr (interesting is a section on the site displaying the most popular photographs of the moment)
now, to de-construct that image would be easy enough. it plays around with basic compositional rules, it's composed well and has pretty decent tones. but it's boring! i don't want to go onto the interesting section of flickr and find people with the 5d mkII camera are taking these kinds of pictures? it's a joke, an insult to the camera itself. but then look at the top image, a picture taken on the now outdated canon eos 350d. i want to see more of that! the mkII has such incredible technical features that it's an absolute waste to be shooting lone trees in the desert. show me things the 350d can't, show me things i've never seen before. it's not as if it's at a consumer price yet (it's £2,500), so who on earth is buying this camera and using it for the bad of humanity? increase the human condition, take beautiful images, wow us with the marvel of its power!
now i know the top image has been edited quite heavily but this is more of a cry out for those with the 5d mkII to push the boat a little. at the moment you're boring, and there are plenty of people with lower grade cameras out there who are taking much better pictures.

stewart lee's comedy vehicle
i'd been a fan of stewart lee for a while, but his new TV show on bbc two is so fucking good (i like to swear a lot). it's on the bbc iplayer at the moment and it's a mix of stand up and sketch in one. the first episode was about toilet books, and the second was about television. he's such a witty and inventive comedian with a really unique style which is almost completely ironic. his delivery is absolutely phenomenal and i laugh simply looking at him from time to time
he's an extremely intelligent man and it comes across quite frequently. i think maybe his use of english would annoy some, but if you're a fan of russell brand then he's in the same space in regards to language. his jokes have obviously been so meticulously crafted they're almost not funny at times because they're so so good. it's strange when a comedian can you make you appreciate how damn funny they are rather than actually making you laugh at times
anyone think he looks a bit like Morissey?
you can be watch this man here; http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00jfhqb

tattoo continued..
this is the tattoo. it's just a reminder of how amazing my mum (margaret) was to me and my sister after my parents split up. she went through a lot but still was able to keep a strong head and do the best she could for us. we never had any money to do anything but i was always happy
i want to continue it be adding two more circles to the left (of the picture, right on my body) with each one containing something else of great importance to me. i still haven't got definite ideas on either but i wish i had got the circles at least outlined at the time because it was done in central London and cost £50! i may also get all of the lines thickened at the same time, just glad i got it done thinner now with the opportunity to expand on it. ahhh tattoo
shaun barber and tattoo's
just came across this painter. his stuff is phenomenal and i just really love photo-realism in general so i'm glad i came across him
i'm completely obsessed with tattoo's at the moment and i've been really thinking hard about what i want to get next. i only have the one, but i know roughly how it will work just not all of the smaller details. i'm so glad i have one tho, i had wanted to do it for a long time but i just never had the solid concept i needed
sleeves are possibly one of the best and worst things you can do to modify the body. i can only think of 2 people (i actually know one of them personally) who have sleeves where it looks bad, and i must have trawled the net for thousands and thousands of images. i know that i'm not that committed to something of that kind of level yet and that's the only reason for the negative attitude, because you can absolutely never change it. that unconditional level of devotion is just beyond comprehension for me at the moment

the beginning...
so, the title of my blog is wideawake ascension. this was the name of the hurcules plane that first dropped my dad off into war in the falkland islands. this was the first time my dad used his camera properly, and the name always stuck. it kind of sounds like a post-rock band, but that's ok as i like post rock
i decided i needed some kind of way to express myself, or stop myself from going crazy in my head. i can't keep on holding back, and i can't carry on hiding things from people. i'm not sure if most of my friends even have a blog, or even a blog on blogspot but that's ok. a blog can be pretty therapeutic in some strange way that i don't understand, but i'm also the type of person that likes to be signed up to everything. i don't regularly use most of these services like twitter and youtube but i like to think i will one day
i'm currently listening to the album station, by russian circles. i was instantly attracted to the band purely because of their name. i like almost anything russian related, and was impressed when i finally played their first album. they're a three piece instrumental band
i'm currently back in wales at my mums house for the week. needed to get away from london for a bit, it was becoming a bit too much
